Teeth develop stain for a number of reasons. When the stain accumulates on the surface of teeth is termed extrinsic stain. In my experience , stain tends to develop on areas of the tooth that are not being cleaned properly. A common site is in between lower anterior teeth. Often patients with this sort of stain are not flossing and brushing effectively in this area.
